We all know there is a trend of living a healthier lifestyle and that filters through into our eating habits. There are just some things that need to remain sacred and you save for those special “cheat days”. You know those days…where you consume whatever you want and try not to feel guilty the next day. They are also the days where we tend to carbo load. What is our favorite way of carbo loading?? Can you say P-I-Z-Z-A?? Not just any old pizza…Streets of New York traditional style pizza. Oh yes, can’t you just envision it now…melty cheese, tangy sauce and cauliflower crust.
Say what?? Cauliflower and crust, that has to be an oxymoron, right. Let’s think about this for a second. Cauliflower is a vegetable, so how the heck does it become a pizza crust? If you are like me, you need this broken down in order to understand it.
Cauliflower is that big white veggie that sits next to that other nemesis veggie “broccoli” in the grocery store. Well…NEWS FLASH, cauliflower is not just the veggie your mama serves at dinner anymore. It has become the “it” thing to create items with. If you are going to create something new, why not create one of the very best things in the world…PIZZA!!
Streets of New York is introducing their customers to this new taste sensation in the pizza scene. Not only is Streets of New York adding a cauliflower crust to its already amazing menu, it is adding the very best tasting crust it could find. No joke!! This cauliflower pizza crust is seriously good. It has simple ingredients consisting of cauliflower (obviously) , rice flower, parmesan cheese, olive oil, egg, yeast, salt, sunflower oil, tapioca flower and vinegar. The combination of these simple items gives the pizza crust an amazing crunch that will have you coming back for more. You are sitting there in awe going, “this is cauliflower?”…well, that’s what I was doing.
So what does Streets of New York recommend you do with this cauliflower pizza crust? To get the true tastiness of the crunch and flavor they say to order it Neapolitan style. Just some simple tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, olive oil and fresh basil. Can it get any better than that…possibly, but they recommend you start there. Streets of New York knows their pizza, because it is a fabulous place to start. It may also be a place I never leave.
Another tasty morsel about this cauliflower crust. It is Gluten free so it fits in to a lot of dietary needs. It also is lower in fat and higher in protein…due to its veggie status. It’s all in the status baby!!
This once iffy cauliflower veggie girl is a convert! Streets of New York’s new cauliflower crust has found its way into my pizza eating repertoire and I don’t see it leaving anytime soon.
